SILVERSMITH´S

UNUSUAL

Double-handled jug. Argentina. Late 19th or early 20th century.

Conical section body that widens towards the mouth; with its smooth and burnished surface, a feature that is barely altered at the base with a chiselled rubbing, and in a strip that runs along its widest section, with a chiselled flower of water representing branches and leaves, and above, the initials of its former owner: “M. No." Towards the mouth, two individual soajes. The particularity of this piece is found in its pair of handles, uncommon in Creole jars; here with grooves and inside a box, a chiseled flower. Measures. Height: 12 cm. Mouth: 8 cm. Weight: 416 grams.

In Creole silverware, some pieces denote responding to a special order; this would be the case of this jug, without a doubt, a drinking container whose functionality we do not know. What is common in these containers is that they have a single handle.
