Gabriela Siracusano and Juan Ricardo Rey Márquez describe its character: “The Nazarene’s artistic refinement is also commendable, though it is more iconographic than naturalistic: the face bears the wound caused by Malchus’s slap and the puncture on the forehead from the crown of thorns, while the chest and back show signs of the flagellation.”
