Mate with child on the stem.
Buenos Aires or Entre Ríos. Late 19th or early 20th century.
Attractive mate gourd with the figure of a boy, a classic subject of putti—male figures, generally chubby and nude—common in Renaissance and even Baroque art. Here, the figure is cast and chiseled, connecting the vessel to the base. The plain base features a central band chiseled with vegetal designs, and the bell-shaped base is also chiseled with leaf and flower motifs.
Measurements: Height: 20.5 cm. Weight: 205 g.
We have found these figures in works from Buenos Aires and Entre Ríos, making it very difficult to identify a precise origin. Even dating them is complex, as these models were repeated over time as decorative pieces with social significance.
