Every encounter is a celebration of life itself. “Leaning against the bar, you might overhear hushed conversations about an improved corn yield, while at another table, bursts of laughter erupt as the winner of a game of *truco*—a card game—sports an ‘ace of swords’ stuck to his forehead. There are no screens here; things are tangible. Real. In this sanctuary of ‘anti-virtuality,’ I chose to forgo digital photography. The photographs in this series were captured the old-fashioned way: using black-and-white film, developed and printed on traditional analog paper. This allowed me to remain in sync with the atmosphere I was documenting,” the author explains.
