Complete work, in four volumes bound with leather spine and gilt titles, Quarto (24.3 x 15.5 cm), with some foxing, although generally in good condition. Volume I (1879): 546 pp. Volume II (1880): 507 pp., plus 4 plans, one folded. Volume III (1881): 509 pp., plus 1 folded plan. Volume IV (1882): 518 pp., plus 3 folded plates and 1 folded plan. Copy dedicated by Trelles to General José Ignacio Garmendia; with bookplates.

Enrique Peña, in his "Study of newspapers and magazines", recounts that «appointed Mr. Manuel Ricardo Trelles, Director of the Library, he addressed to the Minister of Government on April 21, 1879 a note in which he says that «I have come to propose to the government the continuation of the work I undertook in 1867, under the title of Revista del Archivo General… under the title of “Revista de la Biblioteca Pública de Buenos Aires”.» (1)

Trelles had edited four volumes of the Revista del Archivo, published between 1869 and 1872. Seven years later, on April 17, 1879, he was appointed director of the Public Library, later converted into the National Library. He performed his functions with great merit; he resigned in 1884 with the federalization of Buenos Aires and by then he had increased the institution's assets to more than 5,000 volumes, manuscripts, maps, magazines and newspapers.

The magazine published under his guidance brought together important texts on our history.
