Tapestry “Incognito Deo”.

Flemish, possibly Brussels. Late 15th or early 16th century.

Very interesting tapestry with a religious scene. Measurements: 248 x 163 cm.

Although the work is presented in general lines in good condition -although it lacks its guard-, it has slippage in the structure of the fabric in some sections, common in pieces exhibited for so many hundreds of years.

From the last quarter of the 16th century, the tapestry weaving workshops in Brussels reached a singular hierarchy, also encouraged by the commissions received by instruction from Pope Leo X on the Acts of the Apostles according to Raphael. These figurative tapestries circulated throughout Europe and arrived in our country through collecting that progressed from the end of the 19th century. Buenos Aires residences dressed their walls with the majesty of these sublime pieces, many of them of museum quality. This one, without its border, has friendly dimensions for display in a contemporary home, very beautiful in its composition.
