Children playing. Pacheco. 1956.

Tempera on cardboard, signed and dated, with the handwritten title behind. Measurements: 29 x 39 cm / 11.41 x 15.35 in. Framed work.

Diaphanous, luminous landscape, with a palette of intense greens in the vegetation in front and pastels in the rest of the elements that compose it. Two children play with rag dolls in the courtyard of a house, bordered by a geometric broad-leaf privet. He displays the styles that characterize the master, pointillism, that technique that gives vibration, iridescence on illuminated surfaces, and a certain naive air.

Fray Guillermo Butler (Córdoba, 1880 - Buenos Aires, 1961) was an Argentine painter. Son of Guillermo Butler, Irish, and María Batto, Italian. From childhood he showed an extraordinary predilection for painting, for which he possessed remarkable aptitudes. His name was Juan, but he adopted the name Guillermo when he entered the Order of Preachers of Santo Domingo de Guzmán in 1896. In 1907 he was ordained and soon after began his painting studies with Emilio Caraffa and Emilio Mossi. In 1908 he traveled to Europe, conducting advanced studies in France, Spain, Italy, Great Britain and Germany. He was a disciple of the academy teachers Lucien and Desiré Lucas. He returned to Argentina in 1915 and settled in Buenos Aires. Later he made further trips to Europe and the United States, where he exhibited his works in major cities. He won several awards including the First Prize at the National Salon and the Ensemble Prize at the Watercolorists Salon, both in 1925. In 1928 the Luxembourg Museum in Paris acquired one of his paintings. In 1935 he founded the Society of Christian Artists and in 1936 he was appointed Member of the National Academy of Fine Arts, at the time of its creation. Two years later he exhibited 130 works in the halls of the National Cultural Commission. In 1939 he created the Academy of Fine Arts "Beato Angelico" in Buenos Aires, alternating teaching and artistic activity with holding exhibitions in Argentina and Europe.
