Mate with carved cocobolo.

Buenos Aires. Contemporary.

Mate with your light bulb. The goldsmith worked the metal with a hammer, beating it, to achieve an exquisite work. The container, made of carved coconut, has the charm of those viceregal works that from Central America captivated the most diverse audiences in gourds and other containers of liquid. Here, in times of the viceroyalty, they accompanied the custom of mate with beautiful specimens, today collectibles. It presents the three punches that this author applies to his pieces. (See lot 28) Measurements. Mate. Height: 17 cm / 6.7 in.

With great harmony -in a classic variant called the chalice-foot type-, mate has the balance of viceregal goldsmithing, although it is a contemporary work, and we refer to the carving of the cocobolo as to the work of silverware. The polished metal has been decorated with the chipping technique and this preciousness is not only visible: inside its base, you can also see the traces of the burin in the subtlety of the drawing. Another peculiarity is appreciated inside the container, all metal, like the external setting. We are facing a good testimony of excellence in contemporary Argentine silverware.
