BEST ACTOR FOR BEST PHOTOGRAPHER

Portrait of Alfredo Alcon. Circa 1950.

Vintage black and white gelatin silver print, with white margins, signed on the negative by the German artist. On the back is the wet stamp of the author, indicating the address and telephone number of Buenos Aires, and in graphite pencil, the identity of the sitter. Measurements: 22 x 30 cm. Work in good condition, with small cracks on its surface, hardly noticed. The work is presented framed.

On a black background and through a marked chiaroscuro achieved with frontal and overhead lighting and, using the complicated technique of photomontage -at that time completely analog and manual- Annemarie Heinrich achieved a marvelous triple studio portrait of the actor Alfredo Alcón's profile. The dark background -absolutely necessary to hide the joints- gives a theatrical drama to match the great actor. The contemplation of him reminds us of a Greek frieze with three heads under the moonlight.

Alfredo Félix Alcón (Ciudadela, 1930 - Buenos Aires, 2014) was an Argentine actor and theater director. He obtained numerous prizes in our country and abroad; among others, six ACE -one of them the Gold ACE-; the Starfish; the Best Actor Award at the Cartagena International Film Festival; several Silver Condors, including the Silver Condor in his path; six Martin Fierro; various Konex, including Platinum and Brilliant Konex; two Maria Guerrero; the Garcia Lorca (Spain); the Podestá to the honorable trajectory and was also declared Illustrious Citizen of the City of Buenos Aires. He acted in some fifty movies and innumerable plays, standing out in works by William Shakespeare, and in several soap operas.

Annemarie Heinrich (1912-1985), of German origin, was one of the most qualified portrait painters in Argentina, where she moved with her family in 1926, and where she learned the trade from her. Heinrich was characterized by artistically documenting the most relevant figures of theater, cinema, dance and the arts in Argentina since the 1940s. A collaborator of the social magazines of that time -especially, "Radiolandia" included her as the star photographer of her staff- encouraged her studies in the handling of laboratory work with remarkable results. Annemarie Heinrich is considered an icon of Argentine artistic photography of the 20th century.
