IRONS AND OTHER METALS

OF USE IN THE LANDS OF PLATA

Pair of stirrups. Brazil. End of the 19th or beginning of the 20th century.

Pair of stirrups made of white metal, cast, with indications of the material: METAL BRANCO GUARANTEED.

Measures. Height: 19.6 cm. Opening: 9.4cm. Weight: 1021 grams.

Crown-type stirrups, intended for the use of Brazilian and Uruguayan riders, very accustomed to stirrup with these generous models, a custom that our coastal gauchos also adopted. On the skirts, a nice composition with a couple of dogs and in the center, a shield that acts as a reserve to record the initials of its owner, not used. The hondón, with a harmonic fretwork design. The bow, with elegant lines, ends in a transverse eye.

On numerous occasions, these models of industrial origin were copied in the region's silver workshops, for the use of ranchers who, appreciating design, preferred them made of noble metal. Here we present them in their popular version, for daily use in rural tasks.
