The work includes copious information on the struggle on the frontier line against the invasions of the indigenous people. Precise data and concise reflections of General Alsina, at that time head of the Ministry of War and responsible for the military strategy developed against those brave rebels. Undoubtedly, we are facing a source of historical information of singular value; always contained in that thought that at that time guided the actions of the State: "(...) the plan of the Executive Power is against the desert to populate it and not against the Indians to destroy them."

Alsina had been elected governor of the province of Buenos Aires, a position he held until Sarmiento assumed the presidency of the Nation, accompanied as vice president by Alsina himself. Later, with Avellaneda as president, he assumed command of the War and Navy portfolio, at the head of which he was when these texts were published. Unfortunately, at the end of that year, in 1877, Adolfo Alsina died in Buenos Aires after contracting a serious illness in Carhué.
